Biodynamic champagne - what is the secret of its popularity?

Can champagne be environmentally friendly, organic? Yes, these types of champagne are becoming more and more popular recently. Grapes from organic farms, grown in natural conditions, without herbicides and chemical fertilizers, without harming the environment and without depleting the soil, champagne made without sulfites. This is a special taste and a special feeling of satisfaction. Such champagnes are more balanced and full of energy. You choose organic cosmetics, healthy, fresh food without preservatives, and now you can also choose biodynamic champagne.

Viticulture, friendly to the environment and people The era of heavy chemical use in viticulture is long gone. Around 1970, it was noticed that the various chemicals and fertilizers used in growing grapes had side effects, depleting the soil, and changes began among grape growers. There was a gradual transition to organic viticulture, the aim is to reduce the impact of viticulture on the environment, and sulfites are abandoned in the production of wine and champagne.

What does "biodynamic" mean? The term "biodynamic" means much more than simply avoiding chemical fertilizers. This is a whole philosophy, formulated by Rudolf Steiner back in 1924, which aims at harmony between nature and man. Biodynamic viticulture and winemaking is a special and complex approach that covers all areas of activity, from growing grapes to bottling and storage. Here, the most diverse aspects are taken into account - even the lunar cycle.

A new trend is biodynamic wine farms Eco-friendly, organic, biodynamic winemaking was once seen as an activity for a group of eccentrics. Over time, this business philosophy has gained more and more support from grape growers, winemakers and consumers alike. Today, in France, 1.5 percent wine farms are certified as biodynamic. They are certified by two organizations - Demeter or Biodyvin.

Biodynamic champagne - what makes it special?

Biodynamic Champagne is produced without chemical fertilisers and without additional sulphites. This champagne requires a lot more work, but the results are worth the effort. Critics point out that biodynamic winemaking is not only based on science, but also on esotericism - yet there is no denying the impeccable quality of biodynamic wines and champagnes. The result is a champagne that is full of energy, complex and perfectly balanced.

Biodynamic champagne - what do the elite say?

Louis Roederer is an independent, family-run wine house that has been operating in France since 1776. Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, Master of Louis Roederer, says - "Biodynamic Champagne is the haute couture of today." The famous Cristal 2012 Prestige Cuvée from Louis Roederer is made according to biodynamic principles. These principles are being adopted by a growing number of Champagne houses such as Fleury, Leclerc Briant, Benoit Marguet, Agrapart et Fils and others.

Why do consumers choose biodynamic champagnes?

Today, consumers prefer what is natural. Biodynamic methods produce better tasting grapes and wines that are more aromatic and complex. Organic and biodynamic farming practices are more environmentally friendly than conventional farming methods.

De Sousa Blanc de Blancs

The De Sousa wine farm is a family business. The best areas of their vineyard are still farmed using horses and only organic means. Blanc de Blancs, translated from the French, means 'whitest of the whites', a term that originated in the Champagne region, where the calcareous soil is favourable to the cultivation of the Chardonnay grape, and where such wines are characterised by their extreme purity and clarity. De Sousa Blanc de Blancs is a creamy sparkling wine with expressive notes of white fruits, flowers and hints of toast. The taste is rich, fruity and perhaps even a little complex. It is an elegant champagne with a long finish. It goes well with ceviche, fattier vegetable dishes or shellfish. Available in Lithuania.

Fleury Blanc de Noirs

Fleury is the first winemaker to promote biodynamic viticulture. Blanc de Noirs is a champagne made from black grapes. It has rich, complex aromas of dried fruit and honey. The bubbles are fine and the acidity is fresh in the mouth. It is perfectly balanced between fruitiness and a light, pleasant bitterness. Excellent as an aperitif, it goes particularly well with risotto and mushrooms. Champagne available in Lithuania.
